Who Are We?

We are a Lutheran congregation with a strong commitment to education, discipleship, fellowship, and ministering to those in need, both locally and world-wide, through our various missions. We operate in full adherence to the traditional, Biblical Lutheran teachings and values promoted by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and it is also shared by more than thirty-five other world church bodies. All who hunger for the Word of the Lord take refuge here.

Basic Christianity Course (BCC)

To find out more in person, our Basic Christianity Course is offered twice a year. In the course, you will learn:

  • How can the Bible be God’s Word if men wrote it?
  • Who is Jesus Christ?
  • How do we know there is a God?
  • Who goes to heaven and who goes to hell?
  • How did the universe get here?
  • Why is there evil in the world?
  • Does God answer my prayers?
  • Does God really love me?
  • Why are there so many different churches?
  • And more!

The Basic Course in Christianity (BCC) is a safe, non-threatening environment to learn about the meaning and importance of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Christian Church. Questions are encouraged, and there is no obligation to join Trinity Lutheran Church. We promise a beneficial learning experience!

Pastor Kevin Schubkegel teaches the class. He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Divinity degrees, has served in full-time ministry for more than twenty-seven years and has been the pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church for eighteen years.

BCC is a ten-week class, provided as a service to our community at no cost. Materials and refreshments are provided. Childcare is available upon request. To register: Call our church office: 360-428-0290 or email office@tlcmv.com.

A letter from the pastor

Dear Friends,

Welcome! We give thanks for you friends who are united in a common confession of faith called Trinity Lutheran Church and for others in our community. In Mt. Vernon, God has given us a wonderful facility for worship and service to our area and beyond. He has come to us with His gifts, more than enough for every person and every need. God is so very good and has given us all good things in Jesus Christ. I am praying for you today and have the joy of doing so regularly. Would you give thanks and pray with me today?

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit we need You today. We need You again, right now. Lord Jesus, we need your Word and Sacraments where You and Your Spirit are at work and by which You come to us and strengthen us in faith. Give us clarity in our minds and hearts to confess our many sins today in our desires, thoughts, words and actions. Remove the idols in our hearts that continue to war against true faith in Christ. Forgive us and fill us. Cause us to die to sin and rise with Your new life today in the promises of Your ever-flowing waters of Baptism. Fill our church with pure, clear teaching of your Word so that we may hear it, receive it in faith and continue to grow in trust in Christ alone. Feed us in body and soul with Your very own life-giving and sin-forgiving body and blood given for us.

Holy Spirit, please clear our minds and hearts to think on your Word and thoughts continually. Fill us to overflowing so that Your Word and therefore Your Spirit flow from us and our church freely and naturally. Lead us to gratefully serve side by side more and more like a family, as Your family. Give us boldness to speak Your promises in our homes to our families daily. Fill our friendships so that You are present and our words become more and more Your Word. Help us speak of You and so give Your Law and Gospel to those in our path for this day, this week, and in this season of life.

Jesus our sweet Savior, thank you for Your gifts of new birth and true life that carry us through this day and on into Your Glory beyond this temporary life. Thank you that Your Kingdom of Heaven has come to us in Your Word and Sacraments. Keep us hungry for and fill us with this same bread of life which is marvelously new and fresh every day.

Keep us in the peace and joy of our salvation always. Thank You, Loving Father, Gracious Jesus our Savior, and sweet Spirit of Truth. Amen.

Now, go in peace and serve the Lord!

Kevin
